Jeri Huson

Jeri has been the eHealth Project Lead at the First Nations Health and Social Secretariat of Manitoba since August 2021. I come from Garden Hill First Nation on my mom’s side and Trinidad on my dad’s side; a total island girl all around. My husband, Brett, and I have two beautiful children, 11-year-old Warren and 8-year-old Ruby, and we’re blessed to come from large extended families. As the daughter of a residential school Survivor, my guiding force has been to interrupt the transmission of intergenerational trauma while promoting and living First Nations’ values and traditions.

My time with FNHSSM began in our core team, where I directly supported the Board of Directors and management. I was integral in leading the organization and its staff through the significant organizational change inherent in creating FNHSSM and transferring employees from AMC to FNHSSM in 2014. I was vital in developing and implementing internal accountabilities and providing advice and guidance, from executing mandates provided by leadership resolutions to mentoring the FNHSSM Admin. Support Team (FAST) and managing successful fundraising initiatives for FNHSSM.

My ultimate career goal is to direct all my professional resources and energy to First Nations people’s health and social and economic prosperity. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in 2008 and have twenty+ years of experience working directly with First Nations representative organizations, such as the Island Lake Tribal Council, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, and FNHSSM. I love working with our people, the connections to family, the richness of our knowledge and cultures, and the wisdom to protect the land and the earth it sits on.
